Taking Care Of Your Outdoor Furniture This Winter

The worst part of the winter season is that as it gets colder, it’s hard to enjoy your restaurant’s outdoor furniture often. Colder weather also means that you will need to protect and preserve your furniture to reuse it for next year.

Wicker Furniture

To keep your wicker outdoor furniture in pristine condition during the winter, it is usually best to put it away. Putting it away can prevent over-drying and even molding. Make sure that your furniture is clean first. By cleaning, you will preserve the colors and materials. Any bugs that may be hiding their families inside or underneath your furniture can be removed. Depending on your climate, you could get away with just a few outdoor covers to shield it from the wind, rain, and snow.

A benefit to wicker furniture is that it can easily be used as indoor furniture as well. Quality covers will also prevent the bright sun from fading the colors of your furniture. If you don’t have the room to store all of your furniture, at least find a place for the cushions. Winter conditions can leave your cushions soggy and able to produce mold.

Metal Furniture

If you have metal furniture, it is also a good idea to put it away. Metal furniture can rust, especially if you live in an area that gets a lot of snow. Rust will weaken the metal and breakdown your beautiful furniture.

Plastic Furniture

When it comes to plastic furniture, you have an added benefit of no rusting or molding. However, the cold dry winter weather could cause the plastic to become brittle and crack, leaving your furniture unusable. Furniture covers may still be beneficial to you and can save you money in the long run.

Wood Furniture

If you have wooden outdoor furniture, it is always best to have a sealant on the wood. The sealant will keep out moisture that can get into the wood and freeze it. When this happens, the wood can crack; a cover is also great to use in this case. Wood can pull moisture from the air, so the use of sealant is always best in the winter and all other seasons of the year.

Before you know it, it will be time to pull out or uncover your beloved outdoor furniture and enjoy the warmer spring and summer weather heading your way!
